ADA disability regulations regarding handicap grab bars, wheelchair ramps, and state certified stair lifts have been widely used since 1992 in public and privatebathrooms across America, establishing helpful standards for the location and installation of handicap accessible grab bars. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became effective on January 26, 1992. This long overdue set of regulations established federal guidelines for employment and services available to people with disabilities. Its primary purpose has been to battle against any form of discrimination that could reasonably be prevented by federal regulation. This legislation significantly impacted the design of public buildings — for the better! All new public buildings since January of 1992 have included manageable entries for handicapped persons, bathroom grab bars, ramped platforms – and many other handicap accessibility details.
